Kerala Nun Eliswa Vakayil to be Declared ‘Blessed’ in November Ceremony

KOCHI: Eliswa Vakayil, who was the first nun of the Catholic Church in Kerala and the founder of the Third Order of Discalced Carmelites (TOCD) for women, will be declared “Blessed.” This is a sacred title in the Roman Catholic Church. The ceremony will take place on November 8, according to Church officials who made the announcement on Tuesday.

They stated that Pope Leo XIV has approved the declaration of Mother Eliswa’s Blessed status. Pope Francis had previously approved her status as “Venerable,” which recognized her life of holiness and service.
