The executive director of the Kalogi area told Al Jazeera on Saturday that 71 people were killed in the first attack on Thursday. The Sudan Doctors’ Network later reported that paramedics who went to the scene were hit by “a second unexpected attack.”
Two military sources from the government’s army (SAF) also confirmed to Al Jazeera that the RSF attacked the kindergarten on Thursday. They then targeted civilians who came to help the victims.
The city’s hospital and a government office were also bombed, the sources added.
It is difficult to report the total number of dead because communication lines are down in the area, and there are fears that the number could still increase.
Sheldon Yett, the UNICEF representative for Sudan, made a statement on Friday, saying, “Killing children in their school is a terrible breach of children’s rights.”
Yett urged all groups to “stop these attacks right away and allow humanitarian aid to safely reach those who need it urgently.”
The Sudan Doctors Network first reported on Thursday that at least nine people, including four children and two women, were killed in “deliberate suicide-drone attacks in Kalogi town” carried out by the RSF and its ally against the kindergarten and civilian buildings. (Al Jazeera)
