Lance Havildar K.G. George (retd), a decorated veteran of the 1965 India-Pakistan War and recipient of the Vir Chakra, passed away at his residence in Kottayam, Kerala, on Saturday. He was 95. His family confirmed that he died in the early hours of Saturday morning due to age-related complications. Born in February 1931, George was a key figure in India’s defense during the 1965 conflict, earning the nation’s third-highest wartime gallantry award for his exceptional bravery on the battlefield.His grandson, Remo John, shared that the veteran had lived a long and distinguished life dedicated to the service of the nation. The funeral took place on Sunday with full military honors in his hometown. Military officials and local leaders expressed their condolences, noting that the passing of such a war hero marks the end of an era for the veterans’ community in Kerala. (PTI)
