According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Trans Hindon) Nimish Patil, over two dozen unidentified members have also been booked. The accused are facing charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for rioting (Section 191(2)), rioting with deadly weapons (Section 191(3)), and wrongful confinement (Section 127(2)).
The group reportedly took out a procession in the locality, raising pro-Hindu and anti-Muslim slogans while going door-to-door to distribute the weapons. “Police will not permit any outfit to disturb harmony and law and order. All the named and unnamed accused will be nabbed soon,” DCP Patil stated on Monday.
In a video message released while absconding, Bhupendra claimed that 250 weapons were distributed to “protect Hindu families.” He cited the situation of Hindus in Bangladesh as a justification for arming the community locally. Given the proximity of the colony to Muslim-populated areas like Shaheed Nagar and Pasonda village, the police are maintaining a strict vigil to ensure communal peace. (TNIE)
