Bangladesh Interim Govt to Support Family of Lynched Hindu Worker Dipu Das; Promises Justice

DHAKA: The Bangladesh interim government has pledged to take full responsibility for the family of Dipu Das, a 25-year-old Hindu garment worker who was lynched by a mob on blasphemy charges in Mymensingh last week.

Senior Education Adviser C.R. Abrar visited the grieving family on Tuesday, describing the killing as a “brutal crime” for which there is no excuse. He confirmed that the state would look after the welfare of Das’s wife, child, and elderly parents.

Key Points of the Government’s Stance:
Direct Support: Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus has directed that financial and welfare assistance be provided to the family immediately.

Legal Action: Twelve individuals have already been detained in connection with the murder. The government stressed that “rumours or differences of belief” cannot justify violence.

Commitment to Rule of Law: The administration reaffirmed that no individual has the right to take the law into their own hands and that justice will be served through due process.

The incident has triggered widespread protests across Bangladesh and drawn concern from India. It comes amidst a period of heightened tension and unrest following the death of a prominent right-wing leader in the country. (TNIE)
