LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh Police reported that 48 alleged criminals were killed in encounters in 2025, marking the highest annual toll since Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took office in 2017. DGP Rajeev Krishna released the latest data on Wednesday, highlighting the state’s stringent “zero-tolerance” stance against organised crime.
Since March 2017, a total of 266 accused individuals have been killed in police actions across the state. In 2025 alone, the police conducted 2,739 operations, resulting in injuries to 3,153 accused and the death of one policeman. This year’s figure of 48 deaths surpassed previous highs, including 41 deaths in 2018 and 25 in 2024.
The DGP also shared progress on other fronts, noting that 475 cases were registered under the anti-conversion law, leading to 855 arrests. In a crackdown on cow slaughter and smuggling, 3,128 persons were arrested in over a thousand cases. Furthermore, the UP Police achieved a massive recovery of stolen property, including over 54,000 mobile phones and jewellery worth ₹52.27 crore, much of which has been returned to the rightful owners.
