“35 Million Would Have Died”: Trump Claims Credit for Stopping India-Pak War.

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump, during his 2026 State of the Union address, reiterated his claim of preventing a nuclear war between India and Pakistan. Trump asserted that Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif personally told him that roughly 35 million people would have perished in India’s “Operation Sindoor” had the US not intervened to broker a truce.Addressing the US Congress, Trump boasted that he had ended eight wars in his first ten months in office and is currently working on the ninth—the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

“35 million people, said the Prime Minister of Pakistan, would have died if it were not for my involvement,” Trump told the lawmakers. He further claimed that he threatened both nations with 200 per cent tariffs to force a de-escalation.Background of Operation Sindoor:Operation Sindoor was launched by India in May 2025 as a punitive response to a terror attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 civilians.

The operation targeted terror infrastructure across the Line of Control (LoC) and deep inside Pakistan, involving precision strikes by the Indian Air Force and Navy. While Trump continues to take credit for the ceasefire, New Delhi has consistently rejected any third-party mediation, maintaining that the de-escalation was achieved through direct bilateral military channels.
