Internal Rift Intensifies in RSP Over Eravipuram Seat; Karthik Premachandran’s Name Sparks Debate.

KOLLAM: The battle for the Eravipuram Assembly seat has triggered a significant internal rift within the Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) as the 2026 Kerala Assembly elections approach. The inclusion of Karthik Premachandran, son of Kollam MP N.K. Premachandran, in the five-member panel of potential candidates has divided the party leadership and cadres.

During a recent constituency committee meeting, a vote was conducted to gauge support for the candidates. Constituency Secretary N. Noushad secured 8 votes, while Karthik Premachandran and M.S. Gopakumar followed closely with 7 votes each. While a section of the party decries the move as “dynasty politics,” others point to Karthik’s perceived “winnability” and academic credentials as an Assistant Professor at TKM College of Engineering as major assets. The Youth Congress has also intervened, demanding a young candidate for Eravipuram and indicating their support for Karthik if the seat remains with the RSP. The final decision now rests with the District Committee, which must navigate these internal frictions and the pressure for “youthful blood” in the upcoming polls. (Kerala New)
