MUZAFFARABAD: Massive public anger has boiled over against the Pakistani administration in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) following widespread clashes. At least one person was shot dead and several others sustained severe injuries after security forces opened fire at giant protest rallies that erupted across the region on Sunday. The worst of the violence was reported from the Aanb sector, where local police personnel and paramilitary Rangers unleashed heavy tear gas shelling and live ammunition to disperse the agitated crowds. The deceased victim has been identified by local reports as Muhammad Yaqoob.
Tens of thousands of local residents took to the streets to march against the government, raising basic humanitarian demands. The demonstrators are urgently demanding an immediate end to the unjust blockade imposed on them, restoration of suspended telecommunication and internet networks, and the uninterrupted supply of essential food commodities and medical assistance. Furthermore, the massive civilian agitation is pressing the Pakistani regime for the immediate release of all detained political leaders and the complete implementation of the previously agreed-upon 38-point charter of demands.
