Veena Provided No Services; Money Paid Due to Closeness with Pinarayi Vijayan: CMRL Owner Sasidharan Kartha’s Statement Surfaces.

Kochi: In a major setback for Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his daughter T. Veena in the CMRL-Exalogic case, the statement of CMRL promoter Sasidharan Kartha has surfaced. Kartha stated that money was paid to Veena and her firm solely due to his personal relationship with Pinarayi Vijayan, clarifying that Veena had provided no services to CMRL. He gave this statement during an interrogation by Income Tax officials at his residence in April 2024. The Income Tax Department’s findings aligned with opposition allegations that no actual services were rendered. Following these revelations, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) initiated a probe against Veena and previously froze her bank account containing Rs 16.5 lakh based on gathered evidence. Legal proceedings against Veena are currently ongoing.

ED officials have questioned Veena twice in connection with the case. Investigating officers noted significant contradictions between the statements given by Veena and those provided by CMRL officials. During her questioning, Veena repeatedly told the ED that she possessed no documents or records to prove that she had rendered any services to CMRL.
