MALAPPURAM: A major fire broke out at Padma Theatre in Kottappadi, Malappuram, early this morning at around 4:15 AM, causing extensive damage to the establishment. The blaze erupted in ‘Screen-2’ of the twin-screen multiplex venue, occurring on a day when two new film releases were scheduled.
Preliminary investigations suggest that an electrical short circuit triggered the fire. The total operational and structural losses resulting from the incident have been tentatively estimated at approximately ₹40 lakh.
Upon receiving the alert, two units from the Malappuram Fire and Rescue Services were immediately dispatched to the location. Firefighters managed to extinguish the flames following a intense, hour-long operation. The prompt and effective intervention of the fire brigade prevented the blaze from spreading to other sections of the complex.
