Saudi Foreign Ministry Denies WSJ Report Claiming Houthis Demanded $51bn and Political Recognition.

RIYADH: A senior Saudi Foreign Ministry official on Thursday categorically rejected a report published by The Wall Street Journal claiming that Yemen’s Houthi militia had demanded $51 billion and formal recognition as the country’s legitimate rulers from Riyadh in exchange for ceasing military hostilities.

In a statement posted on X, Saudi Deputy Minister for Public Diplomacy Rayed Krimly dismissed the news report, stating it was completely devoid of truth and describing the claims as baseless fabrications by the newspaper’s reporters or their unnamed sources.

Krimly accused the Houthi militia of mounting a rebellion against Yemen’s legitimate authority, deepening the humanitarian crisis, and plunging the nation into external conflicts that undermine its national interests.

Furthermore, the official highlighted that the Houthis continue to target commercial shipping lanes in the Red Sea alongside civilian and industrial infrastructure, while systematically rejecting international diplomatic efforts toward a lasting peace settlement.

Reiterating Saudi Arabia’s diplomatic stance, Krimly emphasized that Yemen already possesses a sovereign and internationally recognized government.
