RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s air defense forces successfully intercepted and destroyed an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) over the Riyadh region late on Friday evening. Maj. Gen. Turki Al-Maliki, spokesperson for the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen, confirmed that the incoming drone was neutralized before reaching its intended target.
The intercepted strike comes amidst a sustained series of cross-border aerial attacks launched against the Kingdom by the Houthi militia in Yemen. Earlier on Friday morning, Saudi air defense units shot down two ballistic missiles targeting the southern province of Najran, followed by the interception of another hostile drone in the Makkah region just hours later.
The Iran-backed Houthi movement has repeatedly targeted critical civilian infrastructure across Saudi Arabia, including commercial airports, strategic energy facilities, and locations near Islam’s holiest cities.
