Actor Mohanlal’s Mother, Santhakumari, Passes Away at 90

ERNAKULAM: Santhakumari, the mother of legendary Malayalam actor Mohanlal, passed away on Tuesday (December 30) at her residence in Elamakkara, Kochi. She was 90. She had been undergoing treatment for a long time following a stroke and was under the constant care of her son and medical professionals. Her husband, the late Vishwanathan Nair, and another son, the late Pyari Lal, predeceased her.

Mohanlal, who was in Kochi for a film shoot, reached his residence immediately upon hearing the news. Known for his deep bond with his mother, the actor often shared emotional updates about her health in his blogs and interviews. He famously named his charitable organization, the “Viswasanthi Foundation,” by combining the names of his parents.

Santhakumari was a familiar figure to Malayali audiences through her rare but heart-touching interviews. In one such viral interview, she once mentioned how she couldn’t bear to watch films like Kireedam or Thanmathra because seeing her son suffer on screen was too painful for a mother’s heart. The film fraternity and political leaders have begun arriving at the actor’s residence to pay their last respects. The funeral is scheduled to take place tomorrow. (Malayalam News)
