Citing security grounds, the MHA has barred all state police forces and agencies from taking Bishnoi into physical custody for a period of one year under Section 303 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNSS). The order mandates that any interrogation during this time must be conducted exclusively inside the high-security confines of Tihar Jail. Officials noted that a similar restriction had been previously imposed by the Home Ministry on Anmol’s elder brother, Lawrence Bishnoi.
This decision effectively ensures that Anmol Bishnoi, recently deported from the United States, remains lodged in one of Asia’s most secure prisons, thereby eliminating security risks associated with transit between states while he faces multiple ongoing trials.
Advocate Rahul Tyagi, Special Public Prosecutor for the NIA, confirmed that investigations linked to Anmol’s cases have concluded. “We moved the court seeking his judicial custody for trial since he was an absconder. The court accepted the plea. He was produced through video conferencing and remanded accordingly,” Tyagi stated.
Under the ministry’s directive, Anmol will remain confined to Delhi prisons for a year, a calculated move aimed at expediting proceedings in high-profile cases while preventing any potential security breach, escape attempt, or external interference.
Years in Hiding End with US Deportation Anmol Bishnoi, who had been evading Indian agencies since 2022, was detained in the United States in November 2024 and subsequently deported on November 18. He was produced before a special court at Patiala House in Delhi the same day.
The younger brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, Anmol became the 19th accused arrested in the NIA’s extensive case probing a terror-gangster syndicate allegedly masterminded by Lawrence. Investigators view his return as a pivotal setback for the network, which is blamed for violent crimes and large-scale extortion across several states.
Key Role in High-Profile Cases Anmol Bishnoi is implicated prominently in multiple high-profile cases, including:
Baba Siddique Killing: Named as a key conspirator in the October 2024 assassination of NCP leader Baba Siddique in Mumbai.
Attack on Salman Khan: Accused of masterminding the April 2024 firing incident outside actor Salman Khan’s Bandra residence.
Sidhu Moosewala Murder: Linked to the May 2022 killing of the Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala.
Wider Criminal Operations: Allegedly involved in extortion, targeted assassinations, and terror funding spanning Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and Maharashtra.
Investigators believe questioning Anmol inside Tihar Jail will provide crucial insight into the internal functioning, funding channels, and international links of the Bishnoi gang. The Home Ministry’s order mirrors the strategy adopted for Lawrence Bishnoi, focusing on maintaining tight, centralised control over high-risk inmates to dismantle organised crime networks. (TV9)
