Ayatollah Alireza Arafi Named Iran’s Interim Supreme Leader Following Khamenei’s Death.

Following the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran has appointed Ayatollah Alireza Arafi as the interim Supreme Leader to head a temporary leadership council. The 67-year-old cleric will lead the transition alongside President Masoud Pezeshkian and Chief Justice Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei until a permanent successor is chosen.

Arafi, a long-time confidant of Khamenei, serves on both the Guardian Council and the Assembly of Experts. His extensive background as the head of the Basij paramilitary force and his deep institutional ties make him a primary contender for the permanent position. As the son of a close associate of Ruhollah Khomeini, Arafi represents a continuity of the Islamic Republic’s hardline ideological foundations during this period of crisis. (News9Live)
