Bangladesh Extends Invitation to PM Modi for Tarique Rahman’s Swearing-in Ceremony.

NEW DELHI (Feb 14): Bangladesh is in the process of inviting Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with several other regional leaders to attend the swearing-in ceremony of its next Prime Minister, Tarique Rahman, scheduled for February 17. Sources familiar with the matter indicated on Saturday that Dhaka has already communicated this proposal to New Delhi as the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) prepares for a high-profile transition of power following their significant electoral victory.

While the invitation marks a significant diplomatic gesture, Prime Minister Modi is unlikely to travel to Dhaka due to prior domestic commitments. He is scheduled to hold crucial bilateral talks with French President Emmanuel Macron in Mumbai on the same day. In his absence, the Indian government is expected to send a senior functionary to represent the country at the ceremony. On Friday, Prime Minister Modi held a telephonic conversation with Tarique Rahman to congratulate him on his party’s remarkable success. During the call, Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment to the peace and prosperity of the Bangladeshi people, emphasizing the deep historical and cultural ties that bind the two neighboring nations.
