BCCI Announces Historic ₹51 Crore Reward for World Cup Winning Women’s Team

NEW DELHI – In a magnificent show of appreciation, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a staggering cash prize of ₹51 crore for the Indian women’s cricket team following their maiden World Cup triumph. This reward significantly exceeds the prize money granted by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

The Harmanpreet Kaur-led ‘Women in Blue’ etched their names in history on Sunday, defeating South Africa by 52 runs in the final at the Dr DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. The victory, witnessed by a packed home crowd, finally overcame the heartbreak of India’s previous final defeats in 2005 and 2017.

BCCI Tops ICC Payout
The announcement confirms that the BCCI’s contribution of ₹51 crore is in addition to the official ICC prize money. The world governing body for cricket is set to award the champions approximately ₹39.79 crore (USD 4.48 million).

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed the figure to news agency ANI, emphasizing the board’s commitment to rewarding the monumental achievement.

“BCCI on its own is going to pay as a reward of 51 crores to the Indian team. That amount will go to the players, the selectors as well as the support staff headed by Amol Muzumdar,” Saikia stated.

Saikia also highlighted the recent push for parity in women’s cricket prize money, noting that the ICC’s prize pool saw a substantial increase, a development he credited to ICC Chair Jay Shah.

The World Cup victory is widely being hailed as a watershed moment for Indian women’s sports, with expectations that the triumph and the record financial reward will dramatically boost the popularity and infrastructure of women’s cricket across the country. ( with input from TV9.
