KOLLAM: A 50-year-old bike rider, identified as Aji from Kandalloor, lost his life after falling into a deep trench dug for drainage construction as part of the National Highway expansion in Oachira. The tragic incident came to light early this morning when the victim was found inside the pit along with his motorcycle. The body has been shifted to the District Hospital for further procedures.

The accident has sparked massive protests in the area, with locals blaming the unscientific and negligent construction methods of the National Highway authorities. Residents alleged that despite several prior complaints regarding the life-threatening nature of these open trenches, no safety measures or warning signs were installed.
