KOTTAYAM: A famous artist from Kerala, cartoonist T. P. Philip, who was popular by the name ‘Chellan,’ has passed away in Kottayam on Sunday. He was 77 years old.
Chellan Saheb was best known for creating the much-loved character ‘Lolan.’ For many years, Lolan was a very famous and iconic character, especially among college students and youngsters in Kerala.
About His Life:
Born: He was born in 1948.
Started Work: Chellan ji first started his career in 1970 by painting signboards.
Main Job: Later, he worked for the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) as a painter and retired from there in 2002.
His Work: He became very famous for his cartoons and particularly for the character ‘Lolan.’
The Kerala Cartoon Academy and many fans have sent their condolences for his death. It is a big loss for the world of art and humor in the state.
Lolan’s Popularity:
- Style Icon: In the old days, Lolan was a style hero. College boys would copy his special bell-bottom pants and unique hairstyle.
- Nickname: Because Lolan was often shown as a lover-boy, all the romantic heroes in colleges started getting the nickname ‘Lolan’!
