CPI Rebels Against CPI(M) Over PM SHRI Schools, Causing Trouble for Kerala’s Ruling LDF

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala’s ruling political alliance, the Left Democratic Front (LDF), is facing problems after its main partner, the CPI, openly spoke out against the leading party, the CPI(M). The issue is the state’s General Education Department’s decision to join the PM SHRI Schools scheme, which was signed just one day earlier.

CPI state secretary Binoy Viswam said that the party and other LDF members were completely unaware of the decision, having been “kept in the dark.” He stated that the action was a “breach of the front’s collective discipline” (meaning, breaking the rules of working together).

Speaking to reporters after a CPI meeting, Viswam noted that there had been no talks about the PM SHRI (Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India) project in the Cabinet (Council of Ministers) up until now. Despite this, the agreement (Memorandum of Understanding or MoU) for the project was signed with “unusual haste.”
