CPM Faces Setback in Kannur as Senior Leader Quits to Contest Independently.

The CPM has suffered a significant blow in its stronghold of Kannur, the home turf of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. District secretariat member T.K. Govindan has resigned from the party and announced his decision to contest as an independent candidate from the Taliparamba constituency.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Govindan stated that his move is a protest against “nepotism,” specifically the decision to field P.K. Shyamala, the wife of CPM State Secretary M.V. Govindan. He alleged that after serving as MLA three times, M.V. Govindan is now trying to pass the position to his wife, violating party principles.

He also claimed that the district committee’s suggestion of N. Sukanya was ignored and raised past allegations regarding the Anthur municipality and the Taliparamba Happiness Festival. (TNIE)
