Death Penalty for 3 in Hampi Gang-Rape and Murder Case: Indian Court Delivers Verdict.

KOPPAL (KARNATAKA): A district court in Karnataka has sentenced three men to death for the brutal gang-rape of an Israeli tourist and the murder of another traveler near the UNESCO World Heritage site of Hampi. The incident occurred on the night of March 6–7, 2025, near Sanapur village, an area popular among tourists for stargazing.

According to the prosecution, the convicts attacked a group of five tourists who were near a canal by Sanapur Lake. The men were found guilty of gang-raping the Israeli woman and a guesthouse owner, as well as murdering one of the travelers in the group. The Koppal district court convicted them of rape, murder, and causing grievous harm, stating that the nature of the crime warranted the harshest punishment under Indian law. The case had sparked significant international concern regarding the safety of foreign nationals visiting major heritage sites in India. (scmp/ ynetnews)
