EAM Jaishankar expresses shock over Saudi bus tragedy; Indian Consulate sets up 24/7 helpline

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Monday expressed his profound shock and grief following a tragic bus accident in Saudi Arabia involving Indian Umrah pilgrims near Medina. The collision, which occurred early Monday morning, involved a passenger bus and a diesel tanker, leading to a major explosion and severe damage to the vehicle, according to the Indian mission in Jeddah.

In a post on the social media platform X, Jaishankar stated, “Deeply shocked at the accident involving Indian nationals in Medinah, Saudi Arabia. Our Embassy in Riyadh and Consulate in Jeddah are giving fullest support to Indian nationals and families affected by this accident. Sincere condolences to the bereaved families. Pray for the speedy recovery of those injured.”

Emergency Control Room Established
Following the incident, the Consulate General of India in Jeddah immediately established a 24/7 control room to assist those seeking information or assistance regarding the victims.
