Bringing a new lease of life to Alappuzha’s tourism sector, the ‘Global Water Wonderland’ project, costing ₹74.95 crore, is set to begin. This world-class water tourism center will be realized using funds sanctioned as a loan by the Central Government under the Swadesh Darshan-2 scheme, along with support from the State Government.
Key Attractions:
Beach: The beach beautification will include the creation of a water dance show, modern restaurants, rest rooms, and a venue for entertainment programs.
Canal: As part of the canal restoration, plazas and boat jetties will be upgraded.
Backwater: An International Cruise Terminal will be constructed. A boat terminal, cafeteria, and boat decks will be part of the terminal.
The construction responsibility for the project has been entrusted to Uralungal Labor Contract Co-operative Society. The government aims to complete the construction by February of next year. While presenting the project’s Master Plan, Dr. Manoj Kumar Kini, Managing Director of Kerala Tourism Infrastructure Limited, stated that this marks the beginning of a new chapter for Alappuzha tourism. The initial meeting, led by District Collector Alex Varghese, was attended by elected representatives and district-level officials from various departments.
