Bappa in Mosque: Ganesh Festival Brings Harmony to Maharashtra Village

SANGLI: For over 40 years, a unique Ganesh festival has been celebrated in a village in Maharashtra. An idol of the elephant-headed god is placed inside a mosque.

Ashok Patil, a founder of the local Ganesh group, told PTI that religious conflicts in other places have never affected the people of Gotkhindi village in Sangli district. The village has nearly 15,000 residents, including 100 Muslim families.

Muslims are also part of the organizing group. They help prepare offerings, join in the prayers, and assist with all the festival arrangements, the 60-year-old resident said.
