Develop Passion for Hindi, Not Just Use It for Utility: Prof. Sudha Singh.

The Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) has started a month-long celebration called “Hindi Maah-2025,” which will run from September 2 to September 30. During this time, various cultural and literary events and competitions will be held to promote the use of Hindi.

Dr. Sachchidanand Joshi, the Member Secretary of IGNCA, stated that the goal of “Hindi Maah” is to increase awareness and use of the language. He challenged everyone to learn one new Indian language besides their mother tongue in the three-month period leading up to Hindi Diwas on September 14 and Bhartiya Bhasha Diwas on December 11. He said that this effort would help strengthen India’s diverse languages, urging young people to take part.

Dr. Joshi also mentioned that IGNCA has significantly increased its Hindi publications and use of the language in its official communications. He emphasized that Hindi should be simple and easy to understand and criticized those who make fun of the language and its teachers. He also noted that while artificial intelligence can help with translations, humans are ultimately responsible for ensuring accuracy.

The event’s chief guest, Professor Sudha Singh, urged people to have a passion for Hindi and not just use it for practical reasons. She encouraged the youth to learn other Indian languages and a foreign language.

The inauguration featured a traditional lamp lighting, a dance performance, and the release of a pledge document to promote and preserve Hindi and other Indian languages. Throughout the month, events will include competitions for poetry, songs, and vocabulary.
