Cow Dung Diyas Light Up Jharkhand’s ‘Green Diwali’, Empowering Rural Women

Ranchi: Eco-friendly ‘diyas’ (lamps) made from cow dung have become a major attraction in Jharkhand this Diwali. Beyond being a symbol of commitment to a greener environment, this initiative is also providing a new livelihood for rural women.

These lamps are being produced by women associated with local Mahila Mandals (women’s self-help groups). Production is active in several parts of Ranchi district, including Kanke, Arsande, and Dhurwa.

The initiative has found its greatest success at the Sukurhuttu Gaushala (cow shelter) in Kanke, where approximately 90 to 100 women are engaged daily in manufacturing thousands of these eco-friendly lamps.
