The bridge project cost a total of ₹60 crore. The first Pinarayi government allocated ₹38 crore, and the second government allocated ₹22 crore to complete it.
The bridge will connect National Highway (NH) 66 and the Ambalappuzha-Thiruvalla State Highway. It will run parallel to the National Highway from Karumadi to Thottappally Kottaravalavu. It was built over the national waterway’s leading channel near the Kottaravalavu ferry crossing, following all national waterway standards.
To avoid blocking water transport, the bridge features a 70-meter-long center span over the national waterway with no support pillars in the middle. The total length of the bridge is 458 meters.
Key features include:
A 1.5-meter-wide footpath on both sides.
A special enlarged area in the middle of the footpath for people to stop and enjoy the views.
The bridge is built in the shape of a bird’s wing and combines features of both suspension bridges and regular bridges.
This new bridge is expected to greatly benefit the residents of Thottappally Naluchira and Illichira, the agricultural sector, the overall transport system of Alappuzha district, and the local tourism sector.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will officially open the bridge to the public on Monday, October 27, at 10:30 AM.
The inauguration ceremony will be chaired by the Minister for Public Works and Tourism, P. A. Muhammed Riyas. Ministers Saji Cherian and P. Prasad will be the chief guests. K. C. Venugopal M.P. and former Public Works Minister G. Sudhakaran will attend as special guests.
The report on the project will be presented by KRFB Project Director M. Ashok Kumar. Various officials, people’s representatives, and political party leaders will also attend the function.
