ALAPPUZHA (KERALA): A 30-year-old lawyer has been arrested for allegedly hacking his father to death and seriously injuring his mother in Alappuzha, a coastal district of Kerala.
The incident occurred at approximately 9:30 PM on Sunday at the family’s home in Kalarickal, which falls under the Kanakakunnu police station limits.
The victim, the lawyer’s father Natarajan (62), died from his severe injuries.
His wife, Sindhu, is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital and is reported to be in serious condition. (PTI)
A father was killed and his mother was seriously injured after they were allegedly attacked by their son, a lawyer, in Kayamkulam’s Pullukulangara area.
The deceased has been identified as Natarajan (60), who succumbed to injuries sustained from being allegedly hacked by his son, Navajith. His wife, Sindhu (56), is currently undergoing treatment in a hospital for severe injuries. The incident took place around 9:30 PM.
The injured couple was first taken to Kayamkulam Government Hospital and then shifted to a private hospital in Mavelikkara, but Natarajan could not be saved due to the severity of his injuries.
Following the attack, the son, Navajith, reportedly created panic in the locality while holding the machete. Police were called to the scene and managed to overpower and take him into custody. Navajith is an advocate by profession.
Relatives stated that the accused is suspected to be a drug user and that arguments over financial disputes were common at the house. Neighbors rushed to the scene after hearing a loud commotion and found Navajith standing over his parents, who were severely injured and covered in blood. They immediately informed the police.
The police had to use force to subdue Navajith. An investigation into the incident has begun.
