India Welcomes Gaza Ceasefire Deal; PM Modi Appreciates Peace Efforts

NEW DELHI: Following the return of the remaining 20 hostages held by Hamas to Israel, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday welcomed their release after over two years of captivity. The Prime Minister also stated that India supports US President Donald Trump’s “sincere efforts” to bring peace to the region.

Prime Minister Modi’s statement came just before President Trump and several other global leaders signed the Gaza ceasefire agreement at a peace summit held in the Red Sea resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. India was represented at the summit by Minister of State for External Affairs, Kirti Vardhan Singh.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) reiterated India’s long-standing support for a “negotiated two-State solution.” The Ministry added that India will continue to support all efforts towards establishing lasting peace in the region.
