Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala), October 22: The Kerala BJP President, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, requesting a probe by a central agency into the “corruption, misappropriation, and violations” alleged in temples managed by Devaswom Boards across the state, specifically highlighting the Sabarimala case.
Chandrasekhar urged the Home Minister to instruct a direct audit of all Devaswom Board records by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) and release the findings publicly. He sought measures to identify and prosecute those who “committed crimes” in the temples.
Stating that the public lacks confidence in the current investigation since the Kerala Police is under the Chief Minister’s direct control, he called for a central agency to investigate the last 30 years of transactions.
He pointed to the “shocking recent disclosures of gold theft” at the Sabarimala temple, followed by reports of fraud and irregularities in gold-plating works and unexplained shortfalls in gold quantities within the Travancore Devaswom Board. He noted that the High Court has already directed the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the Sabarimala discrepancies. He concluded that “swift and decisive action” is necessary to restore the confidence of devotees.
