Abhijith Jees (26, from Wayanad) and Ajeesh Nelson (29, from Chengannur) were flying from Kochi to Abu Dhabi on Air Arabia flight 3L128. They were newly hired Registered Nurses for Response Plus Medical (RPM), a major emergency medical service provider in the UAE.
Just 20 minutes into the flight, as the plane was over the Arabian Sea, their skills were tested. Abhijith heard a gasp and saw a 34-year-old passenger from Thrissur slumped and unresponsive.
“I checked his pulse, but there was none. I knew he was in cardiac arrest,” Abhijith stated.
He immediately began CPR and alerted the crew, with Ajeesh quickly joining to coordinate efforts.
“There was no panic,” Ajeesh said. “We just focused on what had to be done.”
They successfully performed two rounds of CPR, stabilizing the passenger until his pulse returned and he began breathing again.
Dr. Arif Abdul Khadir, a doctor onboard, assisted by administering IV fluids and monitoring the man until the plane landed safely in Abu Dhabi.
“Saving a life before even starting our new jobs felt like the best welcome we could have received,” noted Ajeesh. The nurses quietly continued to their new workplace after landing, and the heroic story only emerged later through a fellow RPM employee who was also a traveler on the flight. ( Gulf News)
