The General Directorate of Civil Defence confirmed in a post on X that its teams responded swiftly to the emergency, successfully containing and completely extinguishing the blaze. Officials stated that no injuries were reported, and precautionary measures were immediately taken to protect nearby properties and residents. According to reports by the Kerala daily Manorama Online, many of the gutted shops belonged to Malayalis running businesses in the market.
Initial findings suggest the fire originated in a godown that was storing highly flammable materials, including plastics, chemicals, and paints. Workers had reportedly left the premises when the fire erupted in the afternoon, which is believed to have prevented a major tragedy involving human casualties. Following the extinguishment, Civil Defence personnel conducted extensive cooling operations to ensure there were no remaining hotspots.
The relevant authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the blaze. (Siasat)
