In a statement, SAHMAT said that in the past, attacks on art were usually done by right-wing Hindu groups. However, this incident was shocking because it was carried out by an artist “and this happened in Kerala, a state famous for its accepting and modern culture.”
SAHMAT also pointed out that the event took place just before the Kochi-Muziris Biennale, a major international art festival, is scheduled to open in December 2025. The group stated, “These types of attacks on culture have become normal in the last few years, encouraged by political talk filled with hate. This must be stopped at all costs.”
