The project will include modernizing the station, renovating platforms, and improving facilities such as platform shelters, restrooms, waiting areas, catering stalls, seating, and drinking water. It will also add new digital announcement and coach position display systems, as well as lifts and better lighting. The old station building and the foot overbridge will also be renovated.
A detailed project report will be prepared soon, and the tender process is expected to start within three months.
Currently, several express and special trains already stop at the station. Soon, the Mangalore-Thiruvananthapuram Express, Maveli Express, and Intercity Express will also begin stopping here. The Ernad Express recently became the 17th train to be given a halt at the station.
Suresh said the approvals came after he raised these demands in meetings with the railway minister and the Railway Board chairman in Delhi.
