Potti was supposed to collect the gold sheets from Sabarimala and take them to Smart Creations, a Chennai company doing the gold-plating. Instead, he asked his friend Ananthasubrahmaniam to do it. A police record (mahasar) from the then-Sabarimala executive officer, D. Sudheesh Kumar, shows that on July 19, 2019, Ananthasubrahmaniam received the artifacts, which weighed 42.8 kg, and took them to his home in Bengaluru.
Sources say he told the SIT that the gold was kept at his house for a few days. After that, it was sent to Hyderabad for maintenance work at a workshop owned by Nagesh, a goldsmith who works with Potti. There was a long delay in moving the artifacts from Hyderabad to Chennai, and the SIT has taken Ananthasubrahmaniam’s statement about this delay. Sources also said Ananthasubrahmaniam has not been named as a suspect in the two cases filed by the SIT, and the team has not yet decided if he should be arrested.
