Visual Maestro Jijo Punnoose Visits ‘Ottakomban’ Set; Directs a Shot After 40 Years!

The set of the big-budget Suresh Gopi-starrer ‘Ottakomban’ at Pala Kurishu Pally Junction is currently bustling with activity, resembling a festival. The scene being shot for the film, produced by Gokulam Gopalan under the banner of Sree Gokulam Movies, is the Pala Kurishu Pally festival, which is a major plot point in the movie.

The Special Guest: Jijo Punnoose, a pioneering figure in Malayalam cinema credited with introducing visual spectacles like Cinemascope, 70MM, and 3D (through Navodaya) and the brain behind films like ‘My Dear Kuttichathan,’ ‘Mamankam,’ and ‘Padayottam,’ paid a surprise visit to the location. Jijo is known for rarely appearing at public events or film sets.

The Invitation: He was invited to the location by Suresh Gopi, fulfilling the wish of director Mathews Thomas, who is a self-proclaimed ‘fan boy’ of Jijo Punnoose.

The Moment: Upon the request of the director and Suresh Gopi, Jijo Punnoose agreed to direct a shot. He reportedly said ‘Action’ for a scene, marking his return to directing a shot after approximately 40 years.

The Film: Directed by debutant Mathews Thomas, ‘Ottakomban’ tells the story of Kaduvaakunnel Kuruvachan and is being produced on a large scale with a budget of around ₹75 Crores. The film features a massive star cast.
