New Delhi: Delhi witnessed a devastating car blast near the Red Fort on Monday, which claimed the lives of at least eight people and injured several others. Sources suggest the blast was allegedly carried out by Dr. Mohammad Umar, who was reportedly driving the Hyundai i20 near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station. Reports indicate that the attack resembles a fidayeen-style (suicide) operation. Investigators are probing his links to the Faridabad terror module believed to have orchestrated the bombing. After learning about the arrest of his accomplices, Umar fled Faridabad. Reports suggest that, in a panic, he triggered the explosion. Sources say he hid a device in the vehicle and planned the attack with two additional associates.
Who is Dr. Umar Mohammad?
Born in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir, on February 24, 1989, Umar was employed as a doctor at Al-Falah Medical College. He was a close aide of Dr. Adeel Ahmad Rather and Dr. Mujammil Shakil, the two doctors arrested on Monday in the “white-collar” terror module busted by police teams from Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana.
He completed his medical studies at Md. Medicines Medical College, Srinagar, and worked as a senior resident doctor at GMC Anantnag before moving to Delhi. He is currently employed as an assistant professor at Al-Falah Hospital, Faridabad.
How was the attack executed?
CCTV footage captured the white Hyundai i20 that exploded near the Red Fort. The vehicle, bearing the number plate HR 26CE7674, was parked near the fort for over three hours, entering at 3:19 pm and leaving around 6:30 pm, according to sources.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the car used in the attack changed hands multiple times. Sources say the car was sold by Salman to Devender in March 2025, then from Devender to Aamir on October 29. From Aamir, it eventually reached Dr. Umar Mohammad.
According to a report, Tariq was also reportedly aware of the car exchange. Both Aamir and Tariq are currently being questioned by the Delhi Police team. (TV9)
