Fire Erupts at MP Flats in New Delhi; No Casualties, Situation Brought Under Quick Control

New Delhi: A fire broke out yesterday afternoon in the staff quarters block of the MP Flats, Brahmaputra Building, located at B.D. Marg in New Delhi. The incident occurred in the ‘stilt area’ where unserviceable furniture items had been stacked for disposal.

The fire was reportedly ignited around 1:15 PM by firecrackers set off by nearby playing children and was noticed at 1:18 PM. Even before the fire engines arrived, CPWD (Central Public Works Department) officials immediately disconnected the electrical supply and the IGL gas connection to the building. As a precautionary measure, people were quickly evacuated from the building to prevent any casualties.

The fire was completely extinguished by 1:45 PM. The situation was quickly brought under control due to the coordinated response of CPWD officials and the Delhi Fire Service personnel.

No casualties have been reported in the incident. All fire extinguishing systems installed in the building were functional and were effectively used to control the fire before the fire engines arrived.

Automatic sprinklers were not installed in the stilt area as they are not mandatory there, as per the provisions of the National Building Code (NBC) 2016.
