FM Nirmala Sitharaman Arrives in Norway to Bolster Economic and Climate Ties.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman arrived in Oslo on Monday, February 16, 2026, for a two-day official visit to Norway. The visit is strategically aimed at deepening economic cooperation and fostering bilateral investments between the two nations. Upon her arrival, she was received by the Indian Ambassador to Norway, Gloria Gangte.

As part of her high-level itinerary, the Finance Minister is scheduled to call on Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and hold bilateral talks with her counterpart, Finance Minister Jens Stoltenberg, and the Minister for Trade and Industry. A key focus of the visit is a roundtable discussion with Norwegian CEOs and investors, alongside a visit to the Oslo Science Park to engage with emerging startups in the field of innovation and green technology.

Prior to her arrival in Oslo, Sitharaman attended the Munich Security Conference 2026 in Germany. Speaking at a session on climate security, she highlighted India’s proactive financial commitment to environmental action. She revealed that India has nearly doubled its climate-related expenditure, which has risen from 3.7% of GDP six years ago to approximately 5.6% at present. “We are not waiting for financing and technology to come from elsewhere, but they must come,” she emphasized, reiterating that India is utilizing its own domestic resources to meet its global commitments ahead of schedule.
