Forest Watcher Killed in Wild Elephant Attack in Kerala’s Palakkad.

PALAKKAD: A 28-year-old forest watcher was tragically killed after being attacked by a wild elephant in the Mannarkkad region of Palakkad on Tuesday evening. The deceased, identified as Shaiju, was part of a 10-member forest department team attempting to drive away two wild elephants that had strayed into human habitation at Chenerikkunnu. During the operation, one of the elephants suddenly turned and charged at the officials. While others managed to escape, Shaiju was caught and trampled by the tusker. Though he was rushed to a private hospital in Vattambalam, he succumbed to his critical injuries. Shaiju had been serving as a temporary watcher at the Thiruvizhamkunnu forest station for the past three years. (TNIE)
