KANNUR: A former official of the state-owned SupplyCo has been sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) and a fine of Rs 15 lakh in a corruption case. The convict, P. Muhammad Ashraf, served as an Assistant Salesman at a SupplyCo supermarket and was found guilty of misappropriating government funds.
While the total sentences awarded across various sections amounted to 17 years, Kannur Vigilance Court Judge K. Ramakrishnan ordered that they run concurrently, making the actual prison term seven years. The verdict was delivered on Wednesday, February 25, 2026.
The Case History:
The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) registered the case against Ashraf in August 2012. He was accused of diverting Rs 14.25 lakh in sales proceeds from the supermarket without depositing it in the official account, thereby committing criminal misappropriation. Following the conviction, the accused was shifted to jail on Thursday. (PTI)
