NEW DELHI (March 2): Amid escalating tensions in West Asia, the Indian government has announced that it is fully prepared to evacuate Indian nationals stranded in the Gulf region. Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) on Monday to review the situation and ensure the safety of the large Indian expatriate community.
As part of the initial relief measures, IndiGo will operate 10 special flights from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to major Indian cities like Hyderabad, Mumbai, Delhi, and Ahmedabad on March 3. These operations are being coordinated with the Consulate General of India to assist passengers affected by the airspace closures.
State governments across India, including Karnataka, Telangana, Punjab, and Andhra Pradesh, have set up 24/7 helplines to assist families. Interestingly, the APNRTS has advised Telugu citizens stranded in the UAE to travel to Muscat (Oman) and take repatriation flights to Kochi to return to India. Several students and tourists from across the country remain stuck in major hubs like Dubai and Abu Dhabi due to flight disruptions following the strikes on Iran. (PTI)
