Rahul, who was stationed about two kilometers away, rushed to the spot in his ambulance after being summoned by Anju’s husband. However, by the time he arrived, the baby had already been delivered. Upon checking, Rahul noticed a life-threatening complication: the umbilical cord was wrapped tightly three times around the infant’s neck. Realizing that moving them immediately without intervention could be fatal, Rahul used his training to carefully unwrap the cord before transporting them to the Kollam Government Victoria Hospital.
Medical professionals at the hospital confirmed that both the mother and the baby boy, named Aaradhyan, are safe and healthy. Rahul credited his quick thinking to the first-aid and emergency response training sessions conducted by the Motor Vehicles Department and various hospitals. In recognition of his exemplary service, District Collector N. Devidas honored Rahul with a ceremonial shawl and a memento during a function organized by the District Child Welfare Committee.
