IAF Sukhoi-30 Goes Missing After Takeoff in Assam; Search and Rescue Operation Underway.

SILCHAR (March 5): An Indian Air Force (IAF) Sukhoi-30 MKI fighter aircraft went missing on Thursday evening after taking off from the Jorhat airbase in Assam. According to defence officials, the aircraft lost radar contact with ground control at approximately 7:42 PM. Two pilots were on board the twin-engine fighter jet at the time of the incident, and their whereabouts remain unknown.

While a massive search and rescue mission has been launched, residents in the remote hill areas near Nilip block in Karbi Anglong district reportedly heard a loud explosion-like sound around 7:00 PM. Unverified images of a crash site have surfaced on social media, but the IAF is yet to confirm any links between the sound and the missing jet. The IAF’s official handle confirmed that the aircraft is “overdue” and that efforts are being intensified to locate the missing crew and the wreckage. (HT)
