India Celebrates 77th Republic Day with Grand Parade and Global Dignitaries

NEW DELHI: India is celebrating its 77th Republic Day on January 26, 2026, marking the historic adoption of the Constitution in 1950. President Droupadi Murmu will lead the national celebrations at Kartavya Path, where the parade is scheduled to commence at 9:30 am. This year’s festivities hold special significance as they commemorate the 150th anniversary of the national song, Vande Mataram. The President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, are attending the event as the chief guests.

The parade features 30 vibrant tableaux showcasing the themes of “Vande Mataram” and “Aatmanirbhar Bharat,” including 17 from various States and Union Territories and 13 from different ministries. A major highlight of the day is the Indian Air Force’s “Sindoor” formation, involving Rafale, Su-30, and MiG-29 jets in a symbolic display of air power. Additionally, around 2,500 cultural artists are performing a synchronized showcase inspired by India’s journey toward becoming a developed nation.

Reflecting India’s inclusive progress, approximately 10,000 special guests from diverse backgrounds have been invited, including World Para Athletics champions, ISRO scientists involved in the Gaganyaan and Chandrayaan missions, and beneficiaries of the PM SMILE scheme. Security in the national capital has been heavily fortified with over 1,000 high-definition CCTV cameras and the debut of AI-enabled smart glasses for real-time threat detection. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will commence the day’s ceremonies by paying tribute to fallen soldiers at the National War Memorial before joining the dignitaries at the saluting dais.
