Iran Protests: Death Toll Surpasses 4,000, Rights Group Reports.

TEHRAN: The number of fatalities in the ongoing nationwide protests in Iran has exceeded 4,000, according to the Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA). The group, which has been tracking the unrest, announced on Monday that confirmed deaths have reached 4,029, with an additional 9,000 deaths currently under review.

The latest figures indicate a rapid escalation, as the death toll has surged by hundreds since Saturday when it first crossed the 3,000 mark. Reports suggest that more than 5,800 individuals have sustained “severe injuries” during the crackdown, while the number of arrests has climbed past 26,000. While Iranian officials have acknowledged “several thousand” deaths, they have yet to provide an official breakdown.

The protests, sparked by the nation’s failing economy, have been met with a severe government crackdown, including a nationwide internet blackout. Amidst the chaos, hackers disrupted Iranian state television on Monday to broadcast messages supporting the protesters and urging the military to stop using weapons against their own citizens. President Donald Trump also commented on the situation, calling for new leadership in Iran and criticizing the regime’s use of force. (The Hill)
