Javed Akhtar Slams ‘Shameful’ Reception of Taliban Minister, Calls Out Deoband for Honouring an ‘Islamic Hero’ Who Banned Girls’ Education

Veteran lyricist and writer Javed Akhtar has publicly condemned the visit of Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi to India, expressing profound embarrassment over the welcome extended to him. Taking to his social media account X, Akhtar stated that he feels “shame” watching those who generally preach against terrorism offer respect and reception to the representative of the “world’s worst terrorists group,” the Taliban.

Akhtar also directed sharp criticism at the Darul Uloom Deoband seminary in Uttar Pradesh. He wrote, “Shame on Deoband too for giving such a reverent welcome to their ‘Islamic Hero’ who is one of those who have completely banned girls’ education.” Concluding his post with an appeal to fellow citizens, he questioned the moral compass of the nation, asking, “My Indian brothers and sisters! What is happening to us.”
