KADCO Artisans’ Meet 2025 Inaugurated; Minister P. Rajeev Stresses on Making PSUs Profitable

Thiruvananthapuram: The KADCO Artisans’ Meet-2025 was inaugurated at Tagore Theatre, Thiruvananthapuram, by Minister for Industries, Commerce, Law, and Coir, P. Rajeev. Speaking at the event, the Minister stated that all Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) need to be profitable.

The Minister noted that PSUs are currently operating in a much improved environment, with twenty-four institutions now running in profit. He clarified that institutions like KSEB and KSRTC do not operate solely on a profit-loss basis, as service is paramount there.

The Minister said the state government’s main goal is to strengthen, make competitive, and make profitable all public sector institutions. He mentioned that KADCO is an institution aimed at developing artisans, and its activities are progressing well. He stressed the need for more artisans to register. The government has issued an order for government offices to purchase KADCO’s products.

He added that the benefits of this should be available to all artisans, which is why he emphasized ensuring everyone’s registration. The Minister also underlined the need to ensure necessary training for artisans. He mentioned that the Gold Appraiser course launched by KADCO is progressing well. Similarly, those engaged in carpentry and jewelry making need training to carry out production activities with the help of new technologies.

The Minister noted that ‘Vision 2031’ seminars are underway in the state, discussing how Kerala has changed over the last ten years and how each sector should be when Kerala completes 75 years in 2031. He said there are major changes coming in the industrial sector and called for a scientific study in the artisan sector to explore ways to advance them socially and economically.

The Minister congratulated KADCO for successfully organizing the meet. Finance Minister K. N. Balagopal, who presided over the function, said there are many possibilities to transform Kerala’s market into a global market. He added that the initiatives taken by the Industries Department and the work done by KADCO are helpful in achieving this. The Minister wished for these activities to be conducted even better.

He also assured the Industries Department of the special support and assistance of the Finance Department for all its activities.

During the event, Minister P. Rajeev inaugurated the distribution of carpentry toolkits and presented certificates to the successful candidates of the Gold Appraiser training course. KADCO Chairman Neduvathur Sundaresan, Managing Director C. V. Mathew, other KADCO representatives, artisans, and entrepreneurs from various districts attended the function.
